Birthdays, Blogoversaries, give-aways and delurk-n-say-hi?****

Waleed turned one, we had a picnic, we cut a cake, and it couldn't have been more perfect. A lot more to say but while I let the thoughts marinate, in honor of birthdays, and seven years of blogging fun if you're reading, please say hi! [and anything else you wish to share, like who you are, when you started reading, salmon or halibut? or whatever stream of consciousness strikes you!] Last time I asked y'all to delurk for a blogoversary was five years earlier, and I still remember the awesome comments and how they made me smile. While blogging is about writing, its also about community, and really, that's the true enduring part of it all. If you've been reading, quiet or otherwise, and are interested, I thought it finally time on the downhill slope from Waleed's first birthday, to share my give-away! This is my way of saying thank you for reading. These are not sponsored-gift, they're from me and while I wish I could offer golden tubas, or something equally fancy I'm sharing these things because they mean something to me and make me excited to give with the hopes you'll enjoy receiving them. Plus, with four different gifting opportunities, there will be more odds to win:
  1. One super-sized decorative box of my favorite candies and chocolates ever.
  2. One collected assortment of my favorite candles.
  3. A brand new copy of my favorite book on motherhood ever or my favorite book- not on motherhood- ever- your choice.
  4. $15 Gift Card to Babies R US
To enter: Leave a comment on this post and tell me you want to enter and click follow for my blog on the side-bar! For extra entries: follow my writing blog and/or link back to my blog from your blog sidebar. Let me know in the comments which of these you did so I know how many entries to enter you for. I had initially thought of entries for retweets, etc. but I want to contain entries to people who read, be they longtime or recent readers. And local friends who silently read? It's open to everyone!

Because overseas shipping costs might run me the equivalent of a semester's tuition I'm limiting entry for #1 and #2 to US/Canada, but if you live overseas and Babies-R-Us and/or Amazon ships to you, please let me know and I'll enter you for just the gift-card and/or book drawing! [Pretty sure Amazon ships book almost anywhere unless you live in Antartica. [As an aside, if you're reading from Antartica a) Sorry! and b) Please say hi! How cool to have a reader from Antartica!] If you read but are not one to enter give-aways, say hi anyways because knowing who is reading makes my day :)

**Updated: Many of you have said that its hard to leave a comment, I think google is acting funny with comments, if you try to leave it using the "Name/URL" option, hopefully it will work? Please let me know if you're having issues!
*** UPDATED to add that since its Mem Day weekend and I have family in town- will update the winners on Tuesday!!!

Contest ends midnight EST May 28- seven years from the day I began blogging!

Am I really first? Awesome!!! Now what am I supposed to do to enter? Leave a comment... done. Tell you I want to enter... I want to enter! Follow your blog... done. :D

It's 10:30 pm, way past my bedtime, but I will try to create a coherent comment because I rarely have the time to actually type anything. :) First, congratulations on 7 years of blogging, that is incredible!!! Second, W is absolutely stunning, congrats on a year(ish) of Motherhood and hope you have a fantastic mothers day. Third, you are such a fabulous writer -- so funny and honest and insightful -- I really enjoy reading you and I hope I can for many, many more years. <3 Thank you for all the good reads and support you've given me!

I'm here and reading as always. Though, I did get uber behind on Reader so have several posts to catch up from you (seriously, have you been chatty, or have I been slacking THAT badly?).

So let's see...what do I need to tell you?
1)Congrats on 7 years of blogging, that is a great accomplishment! :)
2) HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WALEED!
3) I guess number 2 wasn't really for you. But whatever. You get the point. ;)
4) Happy 1 Year Momiversary to you! :D
5) Can I please have a steak or something else? I can't eat fish, so the thought of both salmon and halibut leave me feeling equally icky.

As for the giveaway, you are so kind and generous! Let's see. Entries:
1) I'm having a very difficult time deciding whether I'm more excited about the BRU GC and the totally indulgent candy. I LOVE boxes of chocolates and pretty much never allow myself to splurge on them. Oh, and I already happily follow your blog. :)
2) I'm following your writing blog, too.
3) Your blog is already on the very top of my blogroll. :)
4) I'm sitting here waiting for Live Writer to open, and I'll be posting about the giveaway.

I would have Tweeted, too. But I'm kind of anti-Twitter. So, I don't have an account.

His first birthday, isn't it amazing? Seems like yesterday R&W arrived tiny & helpless and here they are, walking, talking, giggling and wreathing us in smiles & blessings every step of the way.

Happy Mama's Day sweetie - and have a fabulous birthday party for W!

I'm a newbie to your blog, about a month or so. I honestly don't remember how I found you. Yor blog is different from so many I read, I love it! I read on my google reader app on my iPod touch so i don't comment very often (awful, I know). My favorite posts are your Thursday 3 things posts, they're always beautifully written and keep me grounded.

7 years... I can't even keep mine up for a month! Congratulations!!!!

Also a very happy birthday to Waleed :). He's adorable.

Finally, I love giveaways! Thanks so much.

And I'm with some of the other ladies... No fish for me, steak please?

Aisha, I don't need to know you personally to know that you are an amazing writer, friend, sister, daughter and mother. I hope you're writing spreads to others and brings as much enjoyment to them as it does for me and I pray your son becomes to be a good Muslim person full of honesty, integrity, intelligence and a kind heart. But with a mother like you, I'm sure he'll turn out to be all that and more. Congrats on 7 years of blogging!

Aisha - my namesake and awesome writer/mother - many congratulation on 7 years of blogging! Wow, 7 years - that's a lifetime on the internets! And congrats also on surviving the first year of motherhood! Since I can't enter the contest by virtue of being on a different continent (sniff, sniff) here's wishing you many, many more blogging years ahead as well as many more happy and healthy years for Waleed!

Ash

Aisha said...

Mystic, duly noted!

Murgdan, you are so right, motherhood has skewed my perspective of time for sure!

Jenicini, will do!

Em, thanks for delurking! How cool to connect with someone about as remote as Antartica, so amazing how the internet can turn a big huge planet into a meeting spot at one's fingertips. Thanks for your comment :)

Kmina, Happy Mom Day to you too!! Entered! Check :)

Ash, all these years and didn't know we had the same name as I've known you as "ash" LOL :) Thanks for reading all this time, and maybe you can enter? Amazon ships all over, no?

7 years! congrats! Yours is the one blog I read without fail. Don't stop! :)

some things about me:
1. I re-read my favorite books endlessly.
2. I could eat pizza 3x a week (but don't, sadly)
3. now that I'm coming up on 30 in a couple of months, I really believe my life is better than ever (alhumdulillah!)
4. I sometimes think about blogging too! Maybe one day :)
5. I would LOVE to win your chocolate giveaway... and if I don't, please share what your favorites happen to be!

congrats to you again and happy happy birthday Waleed!
xo

Aisha said...

Simeen! So nice to hear from you! And love love love your awesome attitude about 30. I'm with you on that, so far the 30's are the best so far! As for chocolate, will do, so just entry for that give-away? I still remember this memory of you eating a kit kat, you ate half of it, and said you'd save the rest for later. It was a concept that boggled my mind then, to save chocolate, and I still remember it with a perplexed expression, LOL :)

Hi Aisha,
This is me de-lurking to say "hello." I've been reading your blog for many, many years now, but have been too shy to leave comments. :-)
Please keep the wonderful blog posts coming. Hope you had a fabulous "Mother's Day" and Waleed had a blast celebrating his 1st birthday. :-)

Aisha, want to enter (BRU card too tempting for lego :-D ), I already follow you and link to you from my blog. Keep on writing, you write very well.

Aisha said...

Mezba, BRU works at ToysRUs too! So that should work. LOL though, I wasn't expecting you to be excited about the BRU card until I realized the legos. . . otherwise I began getting ideas! lol ;) [insh'Allah]. Thanks for your kind words about my writing, the feeling is mutual!

awomanmyage said...

OOOOOOH, I love a contest, so I'm in! And if you know anything about me, you know I love candies and chocolate. Or maybe I should consider my adorable child and go for the Toys R'US card. Mmmm, candy wins!

I found you through Bloodsigns and I am quite happy that I did.

Aisha said...

Bloodsigns huh? I haven't heard of that site! Will have to google it. Candy is pretty sweet and since I'm doing my best NOT to eat it, the second best thing is imagining someone else eating it :)

Rachael said...

Hi Aisha! Congrats on both your milestones! I think I may have commented once or twice before. I found my first blog ever ~6 years ago when I googled ABC books for a class project and one of the results was a blog--I had never really discovered personal blogs before that and became hooked. I am not sure how exactly I found you, I followed numerous links and trackbacks over the years, but I am glad I did find you! I already follow you thru the google friend thing on the sidebar, and I now follow your writing blog. Since I can't decide between the candy and the candles, could my main entry be for one and my extra entry the other? (I don't hope to win both I just am not a good decision maker haha!)

Tauqeer said...

Hiya! :P

Aisha said...

Rachael, glad you found me too, thanks for your comment :) As for entries, the way I was thinking was I'd do a drawing, and whoever name came up first could pick what they wanted, second place could pick what they wanted, so and so forth. That way its simplest I think than having a ton of different drawings. Hm. Maybe I should do separate drawings though incase someone who doesn't want something doesn't get it. Food for thought!

Tauqeer, hi lol :) Thanks for commenting!

Hi Aisha,
I just started reading your blog and am hooked. Congratulations are due on all your miles stones and accomplishments. However, as a fellow mom whose kids are now entering adolescence, I would like to tell you savour the moments with your little sunflower.. I know you hear the trite sentiment from every one that it goes by so fast, that children grow up quickly. Well, its true.. The fun times always do seem to zoom by. Every birthday is bitter sweet for me, while I love that my kids are growing up happy and healthy, it is also a reminder that they are growing up. I take great comfort in the fact that where ever their life's journey takes them I will always be their mom, their soft spot to fall on.

Aisha said...

Welcome to the blog Fairy! And thanks for your comment! Thanks for the reminder of how fat it all goes. I'm already seeing that as I can't believe he's walking- it feels like each stage will last forever but it won't. Thanks for your sharing your sentiments on this!
