Aisha, the stressed out jitterbug

To make a long story short: I'm feeling a bit stressed out lately [Long story coming as soon as I can find time to sit here and write about all of it] and when one thing after another piles up I tend to resemble a jittery person who may or may not have had ten cups of tea [which I have] and though I can tell myself that it's all going to work out [because no matter what, it will] and everyone I love tells me this too [because short of life or death matters nothing is as difficult as it seems present matter included] I still feel like a puppy with enthusiastic tendencies who hasn't had a walk in like a month. So why do I share this? Because I want your advice: What do you do to handle your stressful moments? What are your go-to relaxation tools and techniques that time and again work for you beyond anything else? Or tell me a joke. That might work too.

Home made mint and ginger tea, cozy sleep pants and a good movie. Makes me forget about all things stressfull.

Cross-stitch. Really intricate, never-finish-it cross-stitch is the best, but really anything works. Or knitting. Or really anything to keep my hands & just the tiniest bit of my thoughts occupied. It soothes my brain when it's running on a hamster wheel. "See?" it says. "You're accomplishing something tangible. Now relax."

Also, Buffy the Vampire Slayer in large doses. Her problems are SO MUCH worse than mine...

Hope things ease up soon for you!

Anon, you are right, mint/ginger tea is awesome-- thanks for all the advice :)

Susan, thanks--- how funny because I have the whole Buffy series on hand, just haven't gotten around to watching it-- might have to start an episode a day. :)

Thanks anon, hugs are great :)

Warm soak in a bath with lovely scented candles, PJs, some prayers, dark chocolate and movie/good book. Hope your jitters disappear. Everything'll work out fine in the end anyway. *Hugs*

Stress stinks I have a very very relaxed husband and that helps a LOT... he listens and gives me foot rubs. Also, I watch funny TV or movies, cook, take a walk. And, dumb as it sounds, I force myself to smile (even if it's fake), surprisingly it helps me a LOT. Hope you feel better soon... hang in there! :)

I chant! In fact I chanted for 2 hours today.

Prayer always makes me feel calmer. Jogging also helps. Hope all is well. :)

Fruitful, just the mental image made me smile! I think some Harry Potter re-reading is just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the advice!

Ash, my poor husband is indeed my sounding board but I think the board is beginning to splinter from all the jittery energy going its way, lol ;)

Julia, foot rubs are magical, and you are SO right, forcing a smiel can help your emotional self fall in line sometimes, thanks for the reminder!

C, wow that is so impressive, how do you maintain the focus for that much time!

Jamila, true thanks for the reminder!

From one jitterbug to another:

One neutron goes into a bar. "How much for a drink?" he asks the bartender. "For you? No charge." :-)

hi aisha, thanks for sharing how you're feeling...i've been feeling this way too and it's been helpful reading how other people deal with major stress. i've been wondering about it as well. i journal, or take a few minutes to centre myself by focusing on breathing...i find "alternative nostril breathing" helpful and relaxing, you can look it up online. also just being able to talk to someone and let it out without being judged or preached to is pretty nice :)

Anon, amen!!!
