Happy eight year blogoversary to me!

I'm secretly beginning to suspect I have a house of magically reappearing boxes. Just when I think I've made some headway, I'll walk into the loft and find five more freshly sealed boxes. Unpacking is not so bad but figuring out where things go in the new home is a challenge. As I wade through boxes and chase my son [who is determined to climb said boxes or unpack the china plates quite forcefully onto the hardwood floors] my ability to connect coherent sentences into a blog post is a bit limited.

But how could I not post today? My goodness, look at the time-- I've been blogging for eight years. I'm not sure I ever thought I would be doing this for quite so long but through teaching, law school, squirrels, motherhood and everything in between this blog has been my constant and I wouldn't have the motivation to write here if it weren't for you reading and supporting me through the years. Thank you.

So on this eight year anniversary I have a small, teeny tiny favor to ask you, one I asked six years ago: If you're reading these words, who you be? No baked goods or give-aways but you will have my sincere appreciation for making my day.

Congrats on the milestone!! I can't remember exactly how I found you, but basically it came from following sidebar links/comment links. I continue to come by because I'm nosy and enjoy reading about your life :)

Good luck on the boxes-eventually they'll quit appearing, well hopefully!

Rachael, thanks so much for commenting :) I appreciate it so much and yes those boxes are a nefarious variety! :-/

Congratulations on your blog-aversary! I also don't remember how I came across your delightful blog, but I enjoy reading your take on culture, parenting, the woes and joys of being a woman, etc. We moved a year or so ago, and the boxes will go away (or you'll put the last nagging few away where you don't have to look at them, until you decide to donate the stuff or have a garage sale)!

Hi Carrie, aw thanks so much!!! And for your encouragement that the boxes will vanish in time, I had to laugh at putting the last few away because that is exactly what I've done with a few, I looked at the labels "miscellaneous decor" and just stuffed it in the attic :) Thanks again for your kind words!

Hi Aisha! Thanks so much for your very kind comment on my blog; I'm glad I found you :-) good luck with the unpacking.

Happy blogoversary! Eight years is a looooong time! Congratulations for sticking with it. :-)
And yes, there is a neverending spot for unopened boxes, if you manage to place just one there, you'll have unopened boxes all the time. Just put them in the cellar or ignore them and you'll see you didn't even need what was in there. :-)

Wow, I can't believe it's been eight years!!!! Happy blogoversary!!!:) Pixie

Thanks Elizabeth, I'm glad to have met you too!

Mina, I know I sat here yesterday thinking well damn its inching towards a decade now. WOW. And yes, boxes will go to the cellar if not dealt with in a few weeks LOL

Pixie, thanks for reading for most of them :)

CONGRATS!!

You went to law school?

I know it's a bit different in the UK but what was it like? I'm going in September and panicking. I feel like it isn't for me.

Hi. I found your blog a few months ago. I forgot how I came across it. Your posts are always interesting and well-written and I can relate to most of them. -H

I'm Kate. I had a blog for a few seconds, but don't post often. I really enjoy reading your posts!

Happy anniversary!

Wait! There's more! I found you on Sprogblogger's web roll. I think you should have box races. You and your husband each open a box and whoever can put the contents away (in an organized manner) the fastest, wins. Person who wins the most rounds receives some glorious predetermined prize, of course.

Aisha said...

Kamille, yep I did go to law school and practiced law for a few years--- as for my experience send me an e-mail so I can get in more detail than a comment would allow :)

H, thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate!

Kate, thanks so much for your comment!!! And box races sounds AWESOME! Thanks for the tip :)

Happy eight years! I originally found you from Sprogblogger's page. I don't comment often (working on that) but love your posts and, as you know from Twitter, enjoyed your essay and the entire book.

I am just turning in the very final draft of my second book this week, and teaching summer classes (I teach science writing to pre-med students), and I am moving in two weeks. I haven't started packing yet (see: book, classes, plus toddler) but can only imagine how much "help" my 20-month-old will be :)

Keep up the great writing!

Aisha said...

Thanks Anon!

Laurie, I have appreciated your support with the book, thank you! I'm not a big twitter-user but it has been great to connect with folks like you :) Thanks again!

Happy Blogoversary Aisha! I came across your blog after I picked up a copy of Love, InshAllah. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I loved your story! As obscure as the arranged match-making process of our culture may seem, it is so fulfilling to see it work...when it does that is :) Nice to meet you!

I think one of the other mama's on the Decatur Mama Forum posted a link to your blog a month or 2 ago. I started reading it and really enjoy your stories and perspective. We've met a few times at the Toy Park and I kept hoping to bump into you there again to tell you in person how I enjoy following your posts. Happy to hear you have found a home (we chatted about the infamous "Todd St" house a while back). Hope to see you again soon! Elizabeth (mom to Vayda)

ESchuhr, really someone had posted my blog on Decatur Mama?! Thanks for leaving a comment, we don't live in that area anymore but do miss so very much Toy Park!

Salam! I can't remember how I came across your blog, but have been enjoying it since. It was around the time my child was born who is your son's age! I enjoy your writing style, and find a lot of similarities growing up Muslim and being S. Asian!

I look forward to seeing your next book at B&N!

Congrats Aisha! What a wonderful thing to celebrate. Hope you have a beautiful day!

Now, on to your questions from 6 years ago --

1) How did I find your blog? Completely randomly on google!
2) Who am I? Kulsum :-)
3) What makes me come back? I love what a great wife and mother you are! Inspires me. Also, I feel like we learn together. Whenever you learn something and share the story that came with it, it challenges me with the same lesson too. Love that.

Hope that answers the question. Best, Kulsum

Eight years? Wow, I am awed and impressed! I've only been at it for a little over a year -- I feel like such a novice! CONGRATULATIONS!!

Congrats on keeping up with the blog! I've seen most people just stop after a while, I know I'm one of 'em!
I think it's been at least 5 years since I've been visiting your blog on and off, although you probably didn't see many comments by me (I don't leave comments very often, lol). Although, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy your posts, there's a reason why I keep visiting this place!
Anyways, I'm Maria, from Alberta, Canada :-)
P.S. I really enjoyed your entry in Love, inshallah! ;-)

Aisha said...

Thanks Anon!

Simeen, yes we go way back :) Congrats on buying a place!! Did you end up going to the suburbs as you were considering or staying in town? We ended up doing a combination of both, its close to everything but a suburban neighborhood.

Aisha said...

fleur, really randomly on google? How very cool, thank you so much for sharing a bit about you and for reading and your sweet encouragement and comments, it means a lot!

I, Maria, thanks so much for your comment and for letting me know about reading Love Insh'Allah :) It means a great deal, thanks!

Julia, but I'm so impressed with how you blog daily! That is a feat not many can accomplish!

Just happened to see yours as contributor blog on another site so beamed myself on to yours.
Looking to educate myself about the depth and breadth of all the wonderfully different yet very similar people in this world.
Look forward to reading your blog.

I found you clicking "next blog" button!

fleur531 said...

Yup - completely randomly on Google!

I was reading some articles on "Muslim Matters" blog about how to become a good wife and mother (not married yet - but one day, inshAllah) ... so I think that Google connected this interest of mine (in all its Big Brother glory :-P)to your blog and placed it as one of my top search results...

Voila! I'm here and now have a big sister to look up to :-)

Ahh, the creepiness and awesomeness of Google :-)
